Andover Township Bans Data Centers, A hard-fought victory, and a call for continued vigilance

Thanks to the persistence of residents and the collective voice of our community, Andover Township has officially banned data centers. This is a major win for Protect Andover, and it shows what we can achieve when we stand together.

However, this victory does not mean our work is done

The battle over the 248 Stickles Pond Road proposal exposed a troubling pattern:

The township committee repeatedly advanced a project that ignored widespread public opposition.
It relied on questionable incentives like the PILOT program.
The township committee prioritized developer interests over the wellbeing of our neighborhoods

This experience taught us that the township’s judgment on development projects cannot be taken for granted.

To safeguard Andover’s future, we must stay organized and keep a close watch on local decision-making. We need residents to monitor both Township Committee meetings and Land Use Board meetings on a regular basis. Attending these meetings, reviewing agendas, and speaking up are the best ways to ensure that no project slips through that could harm our quality of life, our schools, or our environment.
